PURPOSE

Twin Rivers Council for the Arts has served as the arts commission for the cities of Mankato and North Mankato since 2011.  The purpose of establishing an arts commission was to recognize one local organization to serve as a mechanism for developing public/private partnerships with local, state, and regional arts councils, and to represent the needs of the various artists and arts organizations. 

Through public planning initiatives such as the Envision 2020 Community Planning Report, City Center Renaissance Plan, Arts, Culture and Community Enhancement Plan (2007), Get Creative, Mankato (2018) and the North Mankato Public Art Ideas Plan - the cities of Mankato and North Mankato have worked to develop the livability of the Greater Mankato area by encouraging economic growth and development through arts and culture.

The arts are a crucial element in creating vibrant and sustainable environments socially, culturally, and economically.  The 2017 CreativeMN Report, Region 9 report, and Creative Mankato describe the many ways that the arts contribute to the health of Greater Mankato.
