2012 Gallery Exhibition Request for Proposal
As a regional arts and culture service organization, Twin Rivers Council for the Arts (TRCA) works to ensure that arts and culture thrive in Greater Mankato. TRCA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for the arts, cultivates public participation by connecting people to arts and culture, and creates partnerships between the business, creative, and academic communities.
TRCA’s mission is to enrich and strengthen our communities by celebrating, supporting, and promoting regional arts and culture. One of the ways TRCA fulfills this mission is by supporting Greater Mankato artists through exhibitions in the gallery space at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild. The space can accommodate a wide variety of works including paintings, photography, poetry, sculpture, and more.
Exhibitions for the TRCA Gallery are chosen through an application process. Applications are accepted until April 30 for exhibits in the upcoming year. Applications are reviewed and chosen based on artistic quality, taste, originality and craftsmanship, as well as space limitations. All entries must be family-friendly, as the gallery is open to the public. Collaborative projects are encouraged and prior exhibit experience is preferred. A selection panel reviews the entries and each May, the board meets to make the final decisions for the following year’s selections. All artists with submissions will be notified by May 30 via postal mail. There is no application fee.
Each chosen exhibition is hosted for approximately a four to six week period dependent upon other exhibits that are scheduled in advance through the Legacy Funding. The 2012 season is going to be exciting with Mankato East High School and the Textile Center of Minnesota having exhibitions at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild.
What happens after the letters are sent out?
Upon selection of the next years’ Gallery season, we will send out a letter of notification. Following that, an email with appropriate documents will be sent out to those accepted to be completed and returned. TRCA will put together a press release, post the exhibit schedule to GreaterMankatoEvents.com and notify local media and area event calendars, along with social media notifications at their appropriate times. The artist is responsible for the creation, printing, and mailing of exhibit postcards if they so desire. Postcards must include the TRCA logo and be approved by TRCA staff prior to printing. The exhibit is hung by the artist, and a space diagram is included as part of the email packet sent out. The artist reception will be a part of the Third Thursday Gallery Walk in City Center from 5-8pm May – October, and 5-7pm November through April. Currently food and beverages are the responsibility of the artist.
A commission rate of 30 percent is paid to TRCA if a piece is sold during their gallery exhibit with the artist receiving the remainder. Most entries should be for sale. A gallery contract will be required prior to installation.
Application materials may be returned upon request, please include an envelope that is self addressed with a stamp (SASE). If you have any questions, please contact Program Director, Michelle Kaisersatt at 507.387.1008 or michelle@twinriversarts.org.
